I have been asked to announce that Maurice Byrne, known to some members of Moisa as a remarkable researcher in ancient musicology, organology and musical archaeology, an accomplshed bassoon player and one of the last of the great English eccentrics, died in September 2016, after a brief illness.

Greek & Roman Musical Studies

Preparations for the second issue of GRMS 2016 are well under way, and we expect it to appear some time in October.  Meanwhile I would like to urge members of Moisa to offer us articles for publication in the first issue of 2017, that is, the issue which is not devoted to papers from this year's Moisa conference. We already have promises of some articles, but more would be welcome.  In order for them to be considered for publication in that issue, we would need to receive them by 10 September 2016, or very shortly after, so please don't delay!  We publish 'long' articles of up to 8000 words and 'short' articles of up to 4500, but even short notes amounting to just two or three pages are also welcome.

If you have an idea for an article but are not sure whether it would be suitable for GRMS, don't hesitate to write and ask me about it (email address below).

Best wishes to all,

Andrew Barker (Editor, Greek & Roman Musical Studies)
