Abstract

A study of the Attic and Italiote corpus between 440 and 300 B.-C. revealing the role of music as an entertainment during the Greek Symposion. The iconographie analysis is arranged along two main headings : the musical instruments and the influence of music on the banquet party. What transpires over and above the various technical and iconographie aspects is the symbolic dimension of the most appreciated symposiac entertainment.
