The works of Plutarch contain two anecdotes (Moralia 18d and 191f = 219e) concerning an otherwise unknown Spartan named Damonidas. Each of these anecdotes is found elsewhere applied to a variety of other named individuals, including Agesilaus (Xen. Ages. 2.17). The relationships among these anecdotes are examined and the conclusion is drawn that, in each case, the likelihood is that the other versions are derivative of the version concerning Damonidas.
