Abstract | The lid of this sarchophagus (IGUR 1326) of the Imperial Age, which was discovered near Rome, is now kept in the British Museum. On the visible face, there is a Greek metrical inscription of eleven verses, surrounded by two reliefs where poets facing Muses can be seen. This monument has especially held the attention of searchers for the text of its epigram. But two interesting points have been neglected so far: the relationship between the defunct and the music, since it is the only inscription mentioning a man as both poet and citharist, and further his place among Dionysiac artists.
